🥒 4-Inch Crochet Pickle Pattern (with Face)

Skill Level: Easy
Hook Size: 4mm
Yarn: Size 5 bulky yarn (green)

Other Materials:

  • Black safety eyes (6mm or 8mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Stitch Marker
  • Black yarn or embroidery thread for mouth

🧶 Abbreviations (US terms):

  • MR = Magic Ring (see instructions below)
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • dec = decrease (single crochet 2 together)
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • FO = finish off

🧵 Instructions:

Start at the bottom of the pickle:

Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc in ring (6)
Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) around (18)
Rnd 4-12: sc in each st around (18) – this creates the length of the pickle
Tip: Add a few random bobble-like bumps by doing (sc, dc, sc in one st) in a few places if desired

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 6 and 7, about 5 stitches apart.

Embroider mouth with black yarn or thread under the eyes.

Stuff firmly.

Rnd 13: (1 sc, dec) around (12)
Rnd 14: dec around (6)

FO, weave in end.

Optional: Add Bumps

You can add texture by randomly replacing a sc stitch with this "bump":

  • (sc, dc, sc) all in one stitch
  • Continue as normal in the next stitch
This gives your pickle a “bumpy” texture without complicating the pattern.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE MAGIC RING

🧶 Quick Walkthrough (text guide):

  1. Make a loop with your yarn by crossing the tail over the working strand.
  2. Insert hook under both strands, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
  3. Chain 1, then crochet the first round (e.g. 6 sc) into the loop ring.
  4. Pull the tail to tighten the ring, closing the center hole neatly.
  5. Continue working your pattern within this adjustable ring.
